NJHTC has excellent health administration assessors who will be able to guide you through the daunting task of finding a position with valuable tips and insight to the medical industry. All of NJHTC work in the health industry, so you can be guaranteed that all information given is up to date.

All of the medical units of competency are nationally accredited and lead towards the Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) (BSB31112). When you are qualified you can apply for a position as a medical receptionist, medical secretary, or clerk administrator in a general practice, hospital, specialist, aged or allied health care facility. This course is recognised in public and private health facilities.

All graduates of the medical receptionist course receive a Certificate III Business Administration (Medical), which is a Nationally Recognised Qualification throughout Australia in the medical industry. Whether you are leaving school, or re-entering the workforce, the medical industry is an exciting career path with fantastic opportunities both in Australia and throughout the world.

Students study online at home. The software is interactive and use of the internet and /or multimedia is required. The course is self-paced and can be completed within six months study time.

Please note, if you are already very proficient in administration duties or have worked in the health industry previously you may be able to do individual units. For example, if you work for a General Practitioner and would like to work for a specialist you may require Medical Terminology. Please be advised though if you have no prior experience of the industry, our recommendation would be to do the full course.

Please do not be fooled by two-three day courses! These workshops/courses will not give you a full understanding of the health industry.

Units of study (Medical):

BSBMED301B                 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately

This unit covers understanding and responding to instructions, carrying out routine tasks and communicating with a range of internal/external clients in a Medical Office, using appropriate basic medical terminology. Understanding medical words and there meanings often can help you understand locations of vital organs and the functions of the body. If you don't know the medical terminology, you will be lost in a medical career and could potentially hurt someone because some words are so similar. It is also very easy to make a distinction between illnesses and treatments if you understand word spellings, meanings but also pronunciation plays a large role in this.

BSBMED302B        Prepare and process medical accounts

This unit covers Medicare Australia fee structures, processing referrals, and preparing and processing medical accounts for a range of patients. The option of face to face training will also give you the opportunity of using two of the major software products used in medical centres in Australia.  You will learn financial terminology i.e. bulk billing, on line claiming, gap payments. You will also learn about Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) item numbers. We will also give you some online learning tips from Pracsoft and Blue Chip. These are medical software products utilised by many General Practitioners and Specialists throughout Australia.

BSBMED304B        Assist in controlling stock and supplies

This unit specifies the outcomes required to provide assistance in stock control processes within a medical environment. This involves assisting in maintaining stock levels, storing stock, stocktaking, and disposing of out-of-date stock in both the medical treatment room and the administration area. NJHTC will also be able to give you accreditation information on the stock of drug samples and storing of medical disposables.

BSBMED303B        Maintain patient records

The majority of medical records are now held on a computer and are maintained using various software products. Some doctors still use the RACGP filing system and some use a card system. During this unit you will learn about the important of accuracy with regards to record keeping, privacy and confidentiality and questions which may arise from patients regarding their medical records. This unit is extremely comprehensive and again we will be able to give you invaluable online learning with Pracsoft and Blue Chip.

BSBMED305B        Apply the principals of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment.

All aspects of this course are vital if you intend to enter the medical industry. There is endless legislation, accreditation factors and security surrounded by a patient’s health care.
